Fixed Wireless Internet Connectivity
The Technology
Comsol is a pioneer in the delivery of cloud-native converged open core Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) networks and infrastructure, helping build redundancy into organisational networks, and bridging the divide for unserved communities. FWA delivers ultra high-speed broadband connections wirelessly, via wide area networks (WANs) connected via microwave or available radio spectrum to the main distribution networks and fibre network operators (FNOs). Because standards-based FWA now uses open platforms and mass market manufacturing, this form of connectivity is available at an affordable cost, taking reliable, fibre-like connections everywhere in the country.
With Comsol fixed wireless, there are no limits to where you can connect
Unpacking FWA Microwave
FWA is configured much like a mobile network, with a high site on a building or hill, supporting multiple users' connections. Comsol's high sites are carefully selected for the best security, backup power and coverage. Microwave backhaul links to a high site are highly stable, delivering a true fibre-like experience over a moderate distance. Microwave networks deliver less latency and are faster to install than fibre connections, making them an excellent last mile and backup solution. Comsol's microwave services are the only services that truly compete against fibre services toe-to-toe, due the magnitude of spectrum assets that Comsol owns. Our high sites are connected to the closest Teraco via multiple separate fibre infrastructure providers and where added reliability is required licensed microwave backhaul is used.
PtMP or PtP?
Connections to a high site may be described as Point to Multipoint (PtMP) or Point to Point (PtP). PtMP connects multiple sites to one high site switch. Because this type of connection shares the high site equipment, it is a cost-effective solution delivering speeds of up to 1000Mbps for businesses, communities, or organisations with multiple sites in fairly close proximity. PtP connects each customer in the area to their dedicated switch at the high site. This type of connection is a premium line, which requires installation at the high site, but offers the advantages of extended reach and scalability up to 10Gbps.
